Lesson Plans

Unit: "Going Green Begins With Me"

This unit integrates science, math, and art focusing on the LEED units of Materials and Resources and Energy and Atmosphere. Students will use problem based learning strategies to focus on three different scenarios of maintaing ecosystems for monarch butterflies, indigenous birds, and vegetable plants. Another scenario will enable students to construct solar power cars and find other methods of alternative energy. Students will also use recycables to construct bird feeders and mosaic art scenes as a reflection of their dedication, appreciation, and ownership of going green to help save their environment.

The Impact of Transportation

PGCP School District buses most of their students. It is located near DuPont Chemical Plant, Mannington Mills, Praxair and other Industrial plants. With the chemicals produced in the environment from these plants, reducing bussing would help to improve air quality, reduce emissions, and improve the health of the students and staff. Penns Grove is a small town with sidewalks and crossing guards. However, few ride bikes to school.
